Softball Tournament
The 2008 Sunshine Foundation Fastpitch Invitational featured 16 teams, 12 years old and under, from NJ, NY and PA. We were able to raise over $8700 for our chapter and grant the dreams of two families. The tournament was born in August of 2007 while sitting at our booth at the Italian American Festival. It was tough in the beginning but as we quickly received responses from businesses and organizations, we knew we were going to make it. After six months of letters, phone calls and emails, the day was here and gone before we knew it. We have received positive responses from those who attended and alot of participating teams and sponsors want to return next year. The pictures below were provided by a couple sources. One was TSS Photography of Mercer County and the other was the sister of one half of the tournament directors, Lynn Hutter. The day started early in the heat of June and ended with a bang as lightning hit the complex during a helacious storm later in the evening, fortunately after all the teams had left. The storm came at the end of the championship game for the B bracket which was won by the NJ Monsters from Berlin NJ. The A bracket championship game was four outs away from being official but was unable to be completed due to a flooded field. The coach of the Bordentown Bandits, Joe Vastano and the coach of the Millstone Cheetahs, Dave Dominici got together and came to the conclusion that the game would end where it stood. An excellent display of sportsmanship on both parts. So the A bracket championship went to the Millstone Cheetahs. We would like to thank all the participating teams and we hope to see you next year.
